INTRODUCTION TO MICROBIOLOGY

 introduction to microbiology

Microbiology is the science and study of microscopic organisms.
                                        or
microbiology is the branch of biology that deal with the study of origin, living features, life cycles ,virology, pathological conditions, beneficial and harmful effects of microorganisms and their effect on other life forms particularly humans.
in microbiology we study every thing about microorganism including their life cycles ,their microscopic features, their cellular chemistry and all the laboratory techniques that are used for their study.based on the study diversity following are the main areas of study in microbiology.simply we can say the basic microbiology syllabus.
  • general microbiology.
  • microorganisms.
  • normal flora of different environments.
  • industrial microbiology
  • immunology
  • hospital hygiene techniques
  •  introduction to some specific microbial infections and diseases.
further elaboration is as below..

general microbiology

introduction, historical introduction, scope of microbiology with reference to pharmaceutical sciences, nomenclature and classification.

microorganisms

i) bacteria

general and cellular morphology, structure and function, classification, growth and its characteristics, nutritional requirements and factors, culture media for bacteria, staining methods etc.

ii) viruses

introduction and various patterns of classification, growth and replication, growth characteristics, infectious conditions they produce

iii) Fungi

structure of fungi, types, classification, yeasts and molds with specific reference to the infectious conditions they produce.

iv) parasites

common classification of parasite, detailed study of protozoans ,infectious conditions caused by parasites with special reference to human body.

normal flora

normal flora of soil water air etc.

industrial microbiology

different laboratory techniques, classification of industrial microbiology techniques e.g sterilization, disinfection.
pharmaceutical products productions related to microorganisms e.g antibiotics.

immunology

introduction to immunology, types, classification of immunity, mode of actions related to immunity, antigen antibody reactions and their clinical and diagnostic purpose, abnormal immune responses, auto immunity, vaccinations(introduction, types, classification, manefacturing
,common vaccines used today etc)

some specific diseases.

common diseases of microorganism origin in humans like typhoid, measles, influenza, tuberculosis, amoebic dysentery, cholera, diarrhea etc.
